Davis Vantage Pro 2 Wireless Weather Station

The first part is the inside console, then I try to move a fast as possible outside to look at the outside station. Sorry for the messy shot from ...

This Vantage Pro2 is Texas tough

Matthew McGee has his Vantage Pro2 nicely installed with the anemometer at 30 feet and the temperature and rain sensors closer to the ground. Eventually he will add Solar Radiation and UV sensors, and a Wireless Leaf & Soil Moisture Temperature Station .

Matthew McGee lives in Texas, where they definitely have some weather.

'You might say we have some of the wildest weather in the nation,' he wrote.

So when he set out to install a station that could take what Texas dishes out, he talked to other weather watchers.

'They agreed with me that the Davis Vantage Pro2 is best for the job. So what did I do? I bought a Davis Vantage Pro2!'

Matthew's new station got a taste of Texas weather within a few hours of arriving in the Lone Star State.

'The night after we received it, a cold front came in and dropped an ice bomb on us. The Vantage Pro2 knew what the other stations didn't. Pretty good for its first day on the job! After the ice thawed out we got the station set up on a pole and mounted the anemometer at a height of 25 feet [7.6 m] and the rest of the ISS at 10 feet [3 m]. The console even picks up a Vantage Vue down the block.'

New Wireless Weather Station « News of Temperature & Moisture ...

Vantage Vue uses frequency-hopping radio spectrum technology to wirelessly send data up to 1,000 feet (300 m) and provides weather updates from the outdoor integrated sensor suite to the indoor console every 2 1/2 seconds.

The suggested retail price for the entire station is $395.

“The introduction of Vantage Vue draws on 20 years of weather station experience and three years of intense development,” said Russ Heilig, Vice President of Business Development, for Davis Instruments. “Vantage Vue offers many of the features of our professionally-oriented Vantage Pro2™ but in a smaller form factor that takes just minutes to set up.”

“We leveraged our experience to outshine any other comparable station on the market,” added Heilig.

“With Vantage Vue’s new Weather Center feature and the comparative weather data the station provides, users can instantly become neighborhood meteorologists. They’re armed with detailed information that is specific to their ‘microclimate,’ a.k.a. their backyard.

It’s a superior product for the home weather consumer,” he concluded.

The Vantage Vue weather station has two components: The sleekly designed integrated sensor suite, also known as the ISS, and the data-receiving console.

The ISS collects weather data such as outdoor temperature, rainfall, rain rate, wind speed and direction, and wirelessly transmits its data to the console, which displays the data.

Davis Instruments’ weather stations are known for their durability. To ensure product longevity, the ISS is cyclic corrosion tested to simulate harsh environments such as heat, humidity and seaside conditions.

The testing is overseen by Davis’ team of engineers at their California headquarters. In addition, Vantage Vue’s outdoor sensor electronics are sealed for added protection from the elements.

The ISS is energized by a solar panel and stored energy at night, making it an ideal product or gift for the “green” consumer.
