I have a problem with wireless internet adapter saying it has good connection but the internet wont work?

I have a problem with one of my computers at home, I have wireless internet and a Netgear wireless adapter plugged into my Dell computer. When I connect the Netgear is doing its job and connects to the wireless connection but when I go to the Internet, he said there was a problem loading the page. What should I do?

Have you tried turning off the power to your router .. let stand a few seconds .. then plug the comeback?
This will restart the router

Need to gather more information to isolate the problem .....

Click on Start Click on Run
Type cmd and press ENTER
type ipconfig / all and press Enter
Watch IP address of the LAN connection to the wireless network ...
IP Address should look something like 192.168. something.
169.254 NOT something
Default Gateway should look at IP, but they end in a 1 or a 254 ... For example: 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1
if it is empty or all zeros .. you're not really connected to the wireless network.

The default gateway is the address of your wireless router.

Next .. if you have a valid address for the default gateway .. try to send a "ping" (like a sonar ping used to locate submarines)
Type ping 192.168.1.1 (or whatever the IP address of your default gateway)
Do you get answers or "Request timed out"?

If it fails .. try pinging yourself .. To do this we use what is called a "loopback" address.Fortunately, it's the same on all computers.
Type ping 127.0.0.1 and hit ENTER. See if the requests to return or timeout.
If time out .. The problem is either with the wireless hardware on your computer or if you need to reinstall the drivers. In rare cases .. you must reinstall the network stack in Windows. - But it's a whole 'nother issue.

Finally .. If any of these pings time out .. then try pinging your DNS servers listed in ipconfig / all
DNS servers come from your ISP - if they are impossible to reach .. then you will not be able to snatch a website.

Last recommendation is to call your ISP and see if you can help.

Another possibility is .. spyware but not another question entirely.

I have a USB wireless internet adapter, can I plug that into one of my xbox 360's USB ports and get internet ?

basically wanted to see if its possible to get internet through usb port with usb internet wireless adapter, if my xbox 360 internet port is broken.

Probably not. A USB wireless internet adaptor requires drivers, and drivers are operating system specific. Unless your adaptor has drivers specifically designed for the 360 and you can somehow get them loaded onto the Xbox, it's not going to work.

TRENDnet Releases TEW-680MB Wireless N Media Bridge

I will say one thing on Trendnet as I use one of there wireless/Wired B,G,N/Gigabit routers and have for quite some time. My first one lost connectivity wirelessly after a year and a few months (it was the wireless switch). The wired still worked just fine. They replaced it free of charge completely even with free shipping in both directions. I have not had any issue's with it, I have used it in three locations, and have always ranked within the top two highest (generally even if any other wireless network is near it in throughput) throughput as reported by several different wireless monitoring utilities. There internal utilities have always been good for me as well. The only negative I could give them is none of the solo or open source firmware's have ever shown them as supported, and I have looked many times just because I was curious. I have never really needed one either though as the stock or company updated firmware has always been sufficient.

My Mom also has a D-Link (which she bought solo) while it works the throughput ratio has never been very high at all. It has never been anywhere near my Trendnet (generally not even half) although it does work. I have updated it and maintained it but these things have never changed to any amount really. As for Linksys from personal experience even though it is owned by Cisco the updates to there functionality has never seemed sufficient to me which I find very strange for Cisco. Maybe they have better devices now I don't know because as far as personal use it has been several years now since I gave up on Linksys.
