Is it safe to replace the WiFi card in my Dell Inspiron 15 with an Atheros wireless card? If so it will work?
The reason I want this is that I have to capture packets, which is not supported by my current card.
Replacing a wireless network card should be safe. Support for hardware from your operating system.
If you're running Windows XP/Vista/7 then you should be perfectly fine.
I run Linux as my primary OS and I used to have an Atheros chipset wireless NIC before it broke. It was sometimes a little hard to make it work as I needed to use the madwifi driver. This is probably not much of an issue, however, as Linux support wireless NIC has increased considerably since then.
In brief, you should be fine, just make sure your computer is off when you're swapping the NICs.
