Does it matter which kind of WiFi antenna connects to the internal wireless PCI card?

I recently decided to upgrade my Dell Inspiron B120. I bought a mini-PCI internal WiFi card, only to discover that my Dell Inspiron B120 has been one of the few that have been made without the WiFi antenna built in. Now I have to install the antenna. I need to know if I need a special antenna to connect to my PCI card or will any work for the WiFi antenna?

It's really strange that this does not come with internal antenna. You can get the antenna as it is after all just a set of metal and son.

What i want to do use my wifi router so scan for other networks to join to without installing a pci wifi card. kind of like on a laptop but instead with a router, not pci wifi card.

It depends on your router.
Your router must have a feature which called "client".
This feature is supported in Access Points.
Most of the routers don't support it.
